Plein Air Workshops
Explore new terrain with Robin d’Arcy Shillcock, an accredited art teacher with a broad experience in instructing and guiding students from ages 15 to 85. All levels of experience are welcomed. Instruction is given in various media, and is aimed at making observational studies on location. From day one we spend our days out of doors, painting landscape, sketching animal and plant life, traditional architecture and human activity.
In a few strokes and colours you can capture the whole world. Drawing and paintig is just like life: you have to take decisions, learn through error, and, at times, experience unexpected joy. Being there, observing, is essential. It’s all of that I’d like to you to experience in the varied landscapes of Cotentin, la Brière, la Brenne, les Écrins.
Students learn to look, to mix colours and compose, to understand our perception of depth and space, of tonal values, textures, movement and the importance of detail.
Regular evaluations help the student see the strong points in their work as well as the minor points, to better understand how complicated subjects may be treated with speed and spontenaiety.
